Eliezer is a hardworking family man with a deep commitment to social and economic justice. Guided by his faith, desire for unity, and passion for community and civic engagement, he is dedicated to strengthen Hartford’s growth as an inspirational and vibrant city for all. Eliezer works tirelessly to positively impact the city he proudly calls home.
Born and raised in the city’s south end to Puerto Rican parents looking for a better life, Eliezer embodies the traditional first-generation American story. Eliezer’s parents struggled and depended on welfare to stay afloat. For most of his childhood, living from paycheck to paycheck was a reality he knew well. As hard as things were in his early years, Eliezer’s abiding faith, loving parents, and network of encouraging mentors throughout the city shaped him with the character traits that would lead him to become the accomplished professional, minister, community leader and public servant he is today.
Eliezer is a Senior Customer Manager for Gatorade. He has responsibility throughout the Northeast Region. Most recently, he was a District Sales Manager for Frito-Lay. In both 2016 and 2017 he finished as the #1 District Sales Manager in the Central New England Zone.
Eliezer is committed to the community. He is currently on the Hartford City Mission Board of Directors, is a member of the Hartford Public Schools Faith Based Advisory Committee, and is an Associate Pastor at New Life Worship Center.
Eliezer was the Chairman of Hartford’s Faith Based Initiative (FBI) from September 2012 – January 2019. In that role, he was instrumental in forming the Know Thy Neighbor initiative (KTN). True to his unifying spirit, KTN meets in both the Clay Arsenal and Frog Hollow neighborhoods and brings community residents, the Hartford Fire and Police Departments, EMS and members from various non-profit organizations together to discuss community concerns and implement volunteer projects.
Eliezer has been recognized for his leadership and public service. In October of 2018, Eliezer was recognized as an influential leader in the City of Hartford at the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration hosted by the Hartford City Council. He has been awarded the Chiefs Certificate of Excellence from the Hartford Fire Department and City of Hartford. In 2015, he was a recipient of the 100 Men of Color Award.
Eliezer is devoted to enhancing the lives of Hartford residents. He continues to initiate platforms to create positive relationships between various organizations, elected officials, faith groups, and the community. Eliezer Mercado is committed to using his gifts and talents to serve the city and its residents. He is creating a legacy that will unify, empower, and inspire the community toward social and economic solutions to benefit us all for generations to come.
